The farm horses, Barbie and Preacher, turned their 3/4 acre pasture to brown stubble in just two weeks.
That’s when we got serious about pasture management. First, we sectioned off a second pasture for them which included much lusher forage. This pasture is also 3/4 acre and although it includes a wayward patch of comfrey, overall the vegetation is much better.
Then we split the original Upper Pasture in two creating a Sacrifice Paddock and the Back Upper Pasture. On Sunday, May 19th, Ron limed and seeded the Back Upper Pasture and we will keep the horses off here for the next month or so while the new equine mixture take hold. We’ve had daily rain since then which should encourage germination.
This looks very lush! I should take the horses a lot longer to eat all this up!
